secure warehousing

Did you know that there are more than 3.3 million warehouses in the United States? With so many warehouses spread across the country, there should be good security measures put in place.

Unfortunately, not everybody has secure warehousing. These places can be a target for robberies and more because of all of the items and materials that are going through there.

If you are aware of this, it is up to you to improve your warehouse security.

How do you provide a secure warehouse? This is your guide.

Fencing

One of the easiest things that you can do to improve your security is to put up fencing around your warehouse. While it is true that it will not prevent any type of incident from happening, it can do a few things for you with a simple investment.

The first is that it can block off direct access to the property for outsiders. With a closed fence, people would not be able to drive their cars all the way up to your warehouse.

On top of this, depending on what type of fence you install, it could be very difficult for people to climb it. This leads to the second point.

If you install a high fence that is difficult to climb over, you are giving trespassers a double whammy. You are essentially telling them that they not only have to climb this tough fence to get in, but they have to also do that to get out.

For the ordinary person, this could be enough to deter them from trying to rob you.

Security Cameras

The next thing that you are going to want to do is install security cameras on your property. This gives you access to everything that is going on on the property even if you are not there.

If you do this the correct way, you can have cameras in the front, back, and sides of your warehouse. You should also take this a step further and install cameras inside your warehouse.

Most people think that the security cameras and increased measures are to stop outsiders. While that can be partially true, it is the insiders that owners often need to worry about. Essentially, smaller businesses can be vulnerable to employee theft.

About 64% of employees steal from their employer and about 75% of employees have stolen from the company that they work for at least once.

What does this mean? It means that owners who are worried about the people that are working for them may feel safer with this in place to catch the bad apples.

Security Guards

If you do not think the above measures are enough, hiring security guards can greatly improve your concerns with any of the warehouse types that are out there.

While fencing and cameras can deter some people, others may decide to try to take a crack and break into your warehouse. This is where nighttime security can come in.

They can patrol the property and keep a lookout for any intruders that may try to get on the property without permission. Then, they can take measures to stop those people. Security guards can detain those people and then they can either call the owner or the police.

Even having security during the day can be a big asset for your warehouse. This is especially the case if you have sensitive or valuable materials going in and out of your warehouse on any given day.

Security guards can keep watch for you while the rest of the employees can go on and do their jobs in peace.

Alarm Systems

In case someone got by a fence, wore a mask for a security camera, and security guards did not see them, there is always an alarm system.

What this does is if someone goes into your property and does not disable the alarm within a certain time, the alarm system will automatically call the owner or the local police. That part depends on what you want to be done as an owner.

What alarm system you decide to go with is up to you. There is a traditional alarm system that lets intruders know that you are aware of their presence.

Or, you could go with a silent alarm. This is effective if you are set on catching intruders on the spot.

The reason for this is with a silent alarm, it is a lot more difficult to spot unless someone already knows that there is an alarm in the warehouse. They can get a call out before the intruders even know what hit them.

Then, the owner and/or police can show up at the scene before the intruders have time to escape. This may be a route that you prefer to go if you are noticing that you are having problems with the same groups of people. Catching them like this could put a stop to it.
